Re: leds vr mh vr t5
I'm really interested in LED from a power savings perspective, can anyone give me some tips on LED or lighting in general from a FW perspective? Currently I have 2 T8 18" fixtures that came with the tank, upgraded with 20W life-Glow bulbs each rated at 130lux, I have a few amazon sword, katana grass, and a matt of java fern that seems to always show signs of new growth... I'd like to keep them all alive and well (not to mention the fish) Any tips are greatly appreciated!

Definitely brighter to the eye. How many watt t5 fixture vs which led fixture? :-)

Re: leds vr mh vr t5
I'll take a look for info when I get home, I'm at "work" lol the led is a cheap led fixture i ordered off ebay a while ago to grow some seeds indoors and they seemed to do pretty good, they are in the ground now. I figured why not give it a shot. I am waiting since I plugged that light in and today is first time I leave that light on for whats in it so i'll see if the kenya and polyps will open up or not.

These lights will be fine for a freashwater set-up or a fish only saltwater tank. They're not able to sustain corals, making them a poor choice for a Reef tank unfortunately. It's all about the PAR.
Re: leds vr mh vr t5
so how do you measure par... maybe i should read other threads before asking but I'm gonna ask anyways lol

Ha Ha, You better do some checking, thats why ours cost more, Those toys dont put out a tenth the light I have on my led Pico 2.5 gallon. Check the lumen output.

Re: leds vr mh vr t5
so LEDs will now penetrate to a depth of 24"? I am curious since I am running power compacts now and have 1 complete spare set of bulbs, but I notice with these during the summer I have to put a fan behind the tank to reduce the heat.

Yes. Even further with the right optics I would guess.

With optics as right as 30 degrees and as right as an inch apart you could light a very deep tank with leds. Over 30 inches for sure.
