My Eheim 2217 arrived today! The cascade canister was hardly doing anything, such that I had a couple of HOB to try and get the muck moved.
Filter primed really easily, but I have to say I will have to contact them about the screw locks that hold the pipes to the unit/connectors, They don't! Not a single one would go over the swell of the seal such that they could reach the screw thread!

As for the backing of the tank. I've currently placed a black sheet behind it to see how that appeals, I'm thinking I will try a dark blue one too......hmm I wonder if we have zebra print, or leopard print?

Death of a 55G FW Cichlid Tank - Page 3 Empty Re: Death of a 55G FW Cichlid Tank

Meanwhile, in the land of FW things have quietly been on going (I really need to post some pictures, as my Peacocks have matured, and become stunning Electric blue headed. Unfortunately the mix of males to females was way off, and so I have a few poor females that are the desires of the hormone drive young males.
I had seen some nice breeding displays, but wasn't certain that anything had really happened until these last few days.
Top male has made a bowl under an over hang, and was successful in attracting a female. We sat and watched as she dropped her eggs, then turned and scooped them up, after a few minutes, the male then did his circle and shimmy and she went for his egg spots.
Then I noticed another female lurking in the plant, throat extended and not eating, so the stud has been busy previously.
This evening I saw my first fry, and not so small about 1/2 inch long, hiding in the holey rock.
In addition to the dense plant I've also put some plastic spawning grass under the plant, so perhaps others may survive.
However, as the parents aren't looking true to breed, then it will be "what happens in the tank, stays in the tank".
Other tanks, Badboys had to be split up, now have a 20L with 3, the rest in the 55G, where Kenyii now rules in his imperious bright yellow colours.

I realised it's been ages since I posted anything of my Peacock tank and it's development, so for those of the "Lightside", here's a couple of the males in full colour showing off to the females. I always am seeing some fry darting about in the one end of the tank, where I have put some artificial grass under a densely leaved plant.

An update on the Mbuna tank. As usual, I get out the camera, and the fish become shy....great!

I like the LED's, they aren't as harsh as the T8's, giving the caves more shadow but still showing the colours of the fish....when they come out i.e. when the camera goes away.

It's a sign. The dark side is taking completely over.

Is that something you can fix or is it a loss?

As it's the bottom panel I think it's a goner for fish, as to remove it means taking all the glass out, then replacing the base glass, then the sides and re-sealing. Which probably would cost more than buying a replacement tank.
