Activated carbon question
So I now have 2x55G tanks (pics have been taken but I'm lousy at the formatting to size so may take a while to get myself to do that part), I'm using carbon in one, which will need to be replaced, and am thinking I may like to use it in the other canister filter.
I have a little experience with activated carbon from my days in engineering technical polymers and their use in filter mediums with certain plastics, but that was generally from cocoanuts, which has too fine a aperture range for the waste I want it to remove.
I've read up on the bitumous carbon and can see why it's the correct one, so now I know what I want to try, the question is "does anyone know of a good source, preferably local (unlikely, but worth asking).
I found this on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/CARBON-ACTIVATED-BITUMINOUS-HIGH-QUALITY-PREMIUM-3LBS-/290549325216?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43a616dda0#ht_2233wt_918
Which looks OK, I just wondered if anyone has tried it, or has found their own source which has proven to be good?

Re: Activated carbon question
Only carbon I ever use is Chemipure, its good stuff, just need to run it a few monutes then shut it down for a few to get started because any activated carbon can cause a PH spike when new. As for the photos, follow the link I posted below for a tutorial on posting pics on here, its easy, the uploader will resize them for you and you get to preview it before posting.

Re: Activated carbon question
I get mine from bulk reef supply. Whatever you decide to use just rinse it in ro and you will not have to worry about spikes in PH. I run mine in a reactor which is alot more efficient than a bag with water running around it. www.bulkreefsupply.com/store/products/carbon-and-gfo

Re: Activated carbon question
Thanks guys... ro...sorry I do FW..I don't go so high tech as RO alas.. then again I could soak it in some of WalNasty's water, I think the stuff they sell is RO.
Donnie I'm hoping to post a plethora of pics over this weekend as I've gotten 4 days off! The first time since... about last August...oh the yard is bec....argh...chases my Maine Coon cat off the top of the "Cat TV" lid..the yard is beckoning my attentions this weekend too.
