October update. Finally got that toadstool to attach.

Tank's looking great Jaiden, I'm full of envy.

We have larvae! Check out the white spots on the blue snowflakes. That's the planula larvae about to be released. I'm pretty much convinced that they do this right before the full moon but I don't see it every time so either I miss it or they don't do it every full moon. I have noticed it more in the fall/winter months but that just may be a coincidence. I don't run lunar lights and there isn't a scrap of outside light coming into the tank but every time I've noticed this happen it's a few days before the full moon. They swim freely when released and when they settle in a good spot new coral polyps form.

Sweet. Two or three days ago I saw two or three little white spots on my frag. About an inch and a half wide. Maybe they're going at the same time?

That must be really exciting to watch.

The nem moved towards the sand so I had to move the sinularia. I also attached the xenia to the back glass since it was shading some corals.

This is what we came home to last night.



I immediately cut the power to the filter and removed the tube. I grabbed some cutters to remove the plastic from around the nem but it was so far up in the tube and twisted and tangled that I thought I would most likely make it worse. I new it was still alive since it had a shell attached to it's foot. I put it in the lowest flow area of the tank and left it over night to observe. I didn't want that thing to die in there and nuke the rest of the tank but I also thought moving the nem to another tank could be even more stressful. This morning the nem was attached to the back corner of the tank with the tube still on and with a little help from Jaiden, this is what it looks like now!





A little rough around the edges but I think it can recover. I'm going to leave it alone for now and once it starts showing a little more life I'm going to try to feed it a piece of krill.

Hopefully it will want to move, and be able to untangle itself.

Wow. It was really in there! Looks like it should make it to me! Good save!

December update.

Looks like this contest is about to wrap up. We'll be making the final post in the next week or two but I took some pictures and a short video of the tank.

As you can see...the anemones has relocated himself after the filter accident.

Really glad to hear the 'Nem made it. Tanks looking great, and I never realised that a Duncan's head could grow so large, I think I will add that to my wish list as I love the colour.

hey people its jaiden i think my tank is doing great i mean i may be able to keep only 2 fish alive but looks amazing im glad the nem is doing well. We had to move the power head away from the nem because it was getting a bit to close. The only thing i dislike about the tank is when it keeps me up at night with the power head makin weird noises wish me luck in the contest !!!!!!

I'd agree, the tanks looking great. I'd put a Korali powerhead on my Christmas wish list, I really like mine.

That's what we have in there. I removed the HOB filter since the anemone got caught in it. After the anemone attached to the glass he has since moved around to the other side of the tank where the Koralia was. I moved the powerhead to the other side of the tank before the nem could get too close to it.

Not much I can add to what Jaiden said.

I can say that I've been surprised with the little tank. We have not had a scrap of algae appear in this tank except for a little green film on the glass from time to time that is easily removed with a mag float. No hair algae or cyano ever showed in the tank. If I ever do a tank like this again I will have some type of cover on it since we lost more than one fish to jumping. We have really enjoyed the tank and I'm glad Jaiden is happy with it. It has really been a low maintenance tank. Jaiden has fully taken over the top off, feeding and water change duties.

I wish we could have had more enter the contest but I understand it's hard enough maintaining one tank much less adding other tanks to care for. The contest was fun and I hope we can do another type of contest next year.

Tank looks great Jaiden! Good luck to ya in the contest, getting started this young, you have plenty of time to learn all the ins and outs of reefing, hope you enjoy it well into your years like I have.
