I've read quite a few reviews on that HOB, and many rate it as one of the best you can find, and as good as many of the high efficiency canister filters. I'd be interested to see what you think of it.

This isnt my first Aquaclear filter. I have also had the AC70 and it was great, not a single problem. My use for these filters is quite different than what the regular user would be interested in. I take these and convert them into a HOB refugium , that will also house my heater as well as mechanical filtration. I also shave down or remove some of the impeller blades to alter the final flow to fit my needs. (500gph on a 5.5g tank is a bit much) With that said my review of the product wouldnt be fair considering the modifications, but they are the best HOB I have found.

That's the same filter I wanted to use but space between the tank and the wall was an issue.

AC110 Fuge Mod :


1. Take media basket and seperate into 3 pieces





2. Take the bottom screen and place it on the inside of the filter, covering the outlet (silicone into place). This is to prevent any macro algae from pouring out into your display.

3. Take the sides of the media basket and trim as shown- these will be used as baffles/dividers for mechanical media




4. Place dividers in filter as shown - silicone in place at desired spacing to fit whatever media you choose to use.





5. Let silicone cure and you are ready to use - on smaller tanks it may be necessary to trim the impeller blades , or even remove some of them to keep the filter from being too powerful for your tank. I will be showing that as well in a later post.

Got the filter drilled for the WC and ATO fittings. Upper left fitting will be for the ATO input, and the lower will be for the Auto WC . The WC fitting will drain as well as refill the tank, there will be a single line ran to a splitter.
