Tell us a bit about the tank setup. What filtering and equipment. What lighting.

Corals need different environments... some need near perfect and very consistent water parameters, others can get by quite well in a simple setup. Some have very high lighting requirements that can only be met by higher watt and more expensive light fixtures... and once again others do quite well with simple lighting.

So let us know what equipment and lighting you have, and we'll help you pick out some great corals for your new tank. :-)

30% live rock and 60% dead rock that I added at the first of the week. It has 1 coral beauty angel, naso tang, 2 clowns, a dottie back, and a pj cardal (will take him out soon). I added a goby and a sandsifting star fish along with 6 snails and 5 hermits. I am trying a pink tip aninomy as well

Probably to soon on the Anemone, you usually wait till the tank is at least six monts old before trying them but you never know, it might make it fine.

I'm so jealous of ya'lls tangs. Can't wait till I go big and get myself some tangs.

The anemone is also a high light guy. Make sure your bulbs don't get more than 9 months old, they lose much of their par. They're beautiful though.

That's a lovely set up Aaron. Ref the anenome, everything I've read says the tank needs to be well established before considering one. As Donnie said, 6 months minimum. Also watch out for the really attractive "white" ones, seems that pure white isn't natural .... they've been bleached, and they don't last more than a few months.

Typically the white ones have expelled their zooanthalgae because of excess stress from capture and shipping. They usually don't make it, and if they do their zooanthalgae comes back and the anemone is brown.

The bubble tips don't do this that I know of.

Man, one of my first inhabitants probably forty years ago was a white Sabae Anemone, I had him for years and he never got any color but white with purple tips and his base was a redish color. I have seen the forums that say they are bleached, starving, not normal but mine was a pure white. A lot of places that sell Anemones sell white Sabae's so I'm confused. Check the saltwaterfish.com link below.

The pic on the site is what mine looks like. I have only had it for 3 days though. My water is good other that my nitrates are borderline high judging by my test strips but treated for that yesterday.

Yeah donnie I've seen a few stay that color but most of them, if they recover, come back brown. I don't think they're in any worse shape than other would collected anemones, they just change colors once they've been in the tank for awhile. I'm basing that on others experiences though. I've never purchased one myself.

Also even though the tank and water was established, that new rock in the system will make it unstable for awhile. I'd say you should be safe assuming the rock was transported wet and didn't experience any extreme temp swings. It's not that the tank will be dangerous or anything, but when you're using live rock there are literally things dying and decomposing inside the rock everyday and you have to give the number of things dying vs the amount of bacteria time to balance. This is always happening in a reef with live rock which is why you still have to be careful when sticking years down the road.

All it takes is for one thing that's too big to die and create an ammonia spike too large for the bacteria and you've got a spike that could take out another thing or two and keep building up quickly.

Starting with an established reef was a great start though. :-)
