Re: Project 105
woke up this morning to rolling power outages due to an increase of energy demand from the storm. tank temp was down to 68* !!!!!!!
the news is saying that the outages will happen throughout the day and should be for 15 min. at a time, but people are reporting they are out for over an hour at times and sometimes up to 2 hours.
I'M SKERD for my fishies, really need a generator about now

Generator saved my tank yesterday. It would have been gone for sure. It was the best investment for my house and tank. Your tank is looking great!

Boil water and pour some into your sump if it's large enough. Don't raise it back up too fast... but that'll help.

Re: Project 105
I have 2 heaters in it and turned some of the lights on, got the temp back to 74 and the power went back out. Looks like I will be fighting this all day

Re: Project 105
Tank looks good. You did a great job on the aquascaping!!
Buy a generator! I lost everything during the last big hurricane that knocked down every power line on our street. I spent the money on a generator right after that loss.

Losing everything you worked years to build is not a good feeling!! I should learn my own lesson and finish the battery back up I started. Generators don't do you any good if you are not there to start them.

Re: Project 105
After seeing this setup, its officially killing me that I dont have a reef tank up and running.
Re: Project 105
I learned my lesson on generators many years ago. I have mine rigged so if I loose power I can turn the main breaker off to my house so generator don't feed back to the lines, twist lock my short extension cord to a plug I have on the outside of my house, fireup the generator and I have power to everything in my house just like normal except for the ac. I have natural gas so I have heat, lights everything. Only problem is I felt kinda guilty back during the hurricane when I was the only one in the area with electricity for three days. Generator paid for itself that one time.

Re: Project 105
Well my sand bed isnt deep enough to keep the tube nem happy. Plus with the flow in my tank it is going to get beat to death.
Solution :
1.5 " PVC siliconed to a piece of acrylic. The pvc will allow me to insert the nem into the tubing and surround it with sand to protect the whole tube of the nem, and the acrylic will keep the sand from slipping out of the bottom of the pvc. I will then slide it into a cave in my rock work to protect it from the turbulent flow.
Hope it works as planned.

That's a pretty good solution for your tube anemone and shallow sand bed.....

Re: Project 105
the cool thing is, its hidden pretty well by the surrounding rock. In a month or so it will be coraline covered then be "reef camo"
So far it seems to be working pretty well, but time will be the true test.

Re: Project 105
What and how often are you feeding your tube anemone? Do you feed it during the day or at night?

Re: Project 105
I feed it mysis, small pieces of krill, brine, cyclops, rotifers. Pretty much whatever I grab, LOL. I do feed during the day, as mine is open during the day. So far I have been feeding on avg, 4 times per week but may increase to small daily feedings. It is a really cool addition to the tank, and the colors rival even the brightest SPS. the pics I have posted really do not do it justice.

Re: Project 105
Bryan - First, thanks for posting your design!! I copied your idea and made a tube for a tube anemone I recently received.
Question:
I managed to get the tube filled, roughly 60%, with sand. I would like to continue filling the tube to get the anemone closer to the opening. Will the anemone work it's way back to the surface if I fill the tube the rest of the way with sand. I was a bit concerned about covering the anemone with sand.

Re: Project 105
I think if you can just bury the foot a little then it will bury itself. It does it pretty quickly too. When I took it out of my tank I put it in a bowl of sand and by morning it was completely buried again. They can push themselves out of the sand too. My mantis covered it one time and I thought it was gone but it pushed itself back up through the sand in no time.
