Matt's 29g Rimless Biocube
I'm at it again. Today I took the rim off of the top of my 29g biocube. I saw a YouTube video of a rimless biocube and fell in love. I'm planning to get a Kessil A150W to suspend over it using their gooseneck. Should be a very clean look!

Nice, that'll have a really clean profile to it.. Good luck with the build!

I saw those Kessils in action at MACNA. Looks like Radium MH in person. Good luck with the new build.

Re: Matt's 29g Rimless Biocube
Great to hear! I'm not gonna go with the "Deep Blue" but whichever one is right above thy... Their 15k version. I'm planning on this being the only light over the tank. I may mount a moon light right along the back lip or edges.
The Biocube is also modded with the back wall removed, the back glass drilled with an overflow and a sump custom fit to the stand.

Re: Matt's 29g Rimless Biocube
Plumbing and wiring is run.
I've got quite a bit tucked under this guy. I'm going to build a box made out of egg crate to store cheato inside of and add in a sock filter. Everything is run by an older aqua controller 3 pro. PH, orp, salinity and temp probes. DIY ATO, TLF Reactor, Very overrated MarineLand Skimmer. Considering running Biopellets but I'm not sure if I'm going to get into SPS as much with this guy.
I know I will a little, but I'm loving some of the Acans and LPS.
Tomorrow I'll add sand rocks and water. Still need to order the Kessil and gooseneck.
I still need to clean some of the silicone off the top of the tank. Looks nice and clean though. The rounded corners look fantastic rimless!
NOTE: Must also start taking pictures with my phone sideways rather than up and down.

Re: Matt's 29g Rimless Biocube
Water will have to wait. I'm flying to Tulsa for the rest of the week and will be back Friday. Will likely add the rock sand and water on Saturday. :-)
I'm going to finish cleaning it up and getting it ready tonight. Nothing exciting though.

Hey whenever I made my tank rimless I had a tough time getting all the silicon off and I found that if you use acetone and dip your razor in it, the silicone comes right off
You'll have to show us what you did with the back of the tank as far as drilling is concerned as well your sump design

Re: Matt's 29g Rimless Biocube
Drilling is a breeze. Personally if I were to still one today I'd offset the hole to one side. The middle seems to restrict rock work more.
It's the same as a glass-holes.com kit. They're perfect for drilling a tank! This one was already finished when I picked it up.
The sump is nothing special at all. All water movement will take place already under water which will limit bubbles. I don't think I'll need a bubble trap. It's just a custom sized tank. No baffles, no sections. The 4 probes are behind the skimmer to the left, reactor is up front. Really basic setup, just a place to hide the equipment and keep the low profile. I considered drilling the return to keep anything from coming up over the top, but this small of a return is just so low profile already I wasn't worried about it.
Pics!

I really liked my 20l with the glass holes kit... its awesome going to that from a hob overflow. Unfortunatly my current tank has a scary little yellow sticker... "all panes tempered" so back to the hob.... lol

About time you get your hands wet! I was starting to worry about you. Wish you were here... I've got a nice center piece that'd look great in there.

Water. Rocks. Sand. Check.
I'm still a ways out on the light, coral and fish. Excited to get this going again.

Looks like we might get a contract on our house today! I'll be ordering my Kessil and looking for an MP10 soon!
Rock has been going for months now... I'm going to start keeping my eye out for a snowflake clownfish pair. In a few months I'll be after a RBTA.

Re: Matt's 29g Rimless Biocube
I got the AC3 Pro setup and running tonight. Everything is up and running... just waiting for the light. Shouldn't be too long now. Just a few more weeks.
Looks like a local fish store sells Snowflake Clowns for $40 each. I'd consider a pair at $80 cheap!

I snagged a yellow tail blue damsel this afternoon. I wanted to add a cheap-o fish before adding any coral or fancy clowns.
He's doing good this far. Rock has cycled for months now.

Re: Matt's 29g Rimless Biocube
I got a tip from a local guy here who knew of a store that sells some really nice live rock. I went and snagged a piece tonight. Looks like it's got all sorts of goodies on it and in it. There were several that had clams and LPS corals on the rocks but those were too big for what I was looking for. I'm already up to two LFS's that are within 15 minutes of me that were better than anything in Longview. Lol... funny thing is they're the first two outside of Petco that I've tried. I guess Longview didn't set the bar terribly high! ;-)

Well... Woke up to a nice aptaisia staring me in the face on the new rock I bought yesterday. I'm thinking about just yanking it out of the tank before I leave for work.

Re: Matt's 29g Rimless Biocube
I had some majonos in the 29g, but honestly they weren't too bad. Seemed to be a fairly slow grower for me. Those guys don't free spawn through a whole system, so they primarily stay isolated to a single rock. They were also maroon and didn't look too ugly. Lol.
